You Are A Badass At Making Money // Jen Sincero
My New Year’s Resolution this year was to read 50 books in 2018. To make this resolution a little more challenging, I made my own baby version of the 2018 Read Harder Challenge. One of my challenges was to “read a book about personal finance,” and You Are A Badass At Making Money by Jen Sincero was the book to do the deed.
I originally picked up this book thinking it would tell me about paying off credit cards, 401ks, personal finance, etc. You know... the grownup stuff. What I found instead was a book that discussed how money gives us the lives we want, and that it is absolutely out there for us to make. There are incredibly stories of people who went from a rice and beans grocery budget to making six figures in a matter of months, by utilizing the talents that they already had.
They weren’t coders. They weren’t engineers. They weren’t even accountants (some were ex-journalists for crying out loud!). But by following the process outlined in this book, they were able to change their relationship with money and do some pretty badass things, that also felt a lot like destiny.
WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT MY OWN RELATIONSHIP WITH MONEY.
Using the questions for reflection at the end of each chapter, I was able to figure out one of the (scariest and embarrassing) hangups I have with money: That my worth was determined by my salary. And that I had pigeonholed myself into believing that I needed to find a man to support the lifestyle I wanted, instead of being a badass and supporting myself.
Seriously y’all, this book will rock you.
